Bundles were a special type of set that Mega Bloks released quite frequently for their toylines. The "bundles" would usually be a repackaging of several previously released sets. Usually three or four. Most of these have become quite rare and sought after in today's market.
The Pyrates toyline had six of these bundles released. Four in Wave 1, Two in Wave 2, and none in wave 3. The bundles varied in size.
The Pyrates Bundles are as follows:
Black Sea Battle was a bundle that released in Wave 1 of the Pyrates toyline. It was actually the very first bundle released for the series.
Black Sea Battle is set #3604. It contains three sets within it. Two Ships and one Skull set. It includes 215 pieces and features 12 Micro Action Figures. It also includes an octopus and a rowboat as accessories. It also includes three tattoos, one of each insignia for the Sea Marauders, Skeleton Crew, and Privateers.
This bundle includes the following sets:
The set includes 12 total Micro Action Figures. Seven members of the Skeleton Crew, three Sea Marauders, and two Privateers.
A bit of interesting trivia with this set. When the first ever Pyrates sets first released, the original version of the map featured both of the first bundles. These were Pyrates Hideout and this very bundle, Black Sea Battle. However, later versions of the maps would not add the bundle sets. Making these two the only ones to ever be added.
However, Black Sea Battle would later lose that distinction. In Wave 2, when the first four Crew Packs were released, one of them shared a name with this set. The Crew Pack version is #3687 Black Sea Battle. When the crew packs were added to the map, Black Sea Battle was retroactively changed to represent the Crew Pack instead of the bundle. Thus making Pyrates Hideout the only bundle to remain featured on the map.
Pyrates Hideout was the second bundle released for the Pyrates' toyline. It was released in wave 1, right alongside Black Sea Battle. The boxart for this set is quite unique. The box itself is sloped, and the two skulls jut out of the box in a really neat fashion.
Pyrates Hideout is set #3675. It features a combination of three sets. Two Skull Sets and one Playset. It includes 105 pieces and nine Micro Action Figures. It also features two rowboats, an octopus, and a blue shark.
This bundle includes the following sets:
The set also features nine Micro Action Figures. Four Skeleton Crew Members, three Marauders, and two Privateers.
Just wanted to pop in here real quick to mention a few things. As I mentioned in the post for Black Sea Battle, Pyrates Hideout is the only bundle set that's featured on the map. It used to share that spot with Black Sea Battle, until that got retconned into being for the Crew Pack instead.
I also wanted to mention the figures in this set. Particularly, how disapointing it must've been to get what's basically two of the same figure. This bundle features both Braggart T. Doyle and Lockpick Cabot. Which are literally the exact same figure.
And one last thing to mention, this set is the namesake of the website! Pyrates Hideout! So this set is extra special!
.... Yes I know its supposed to be "Pyrates Hide-Out", but I didn't realize until I'd already made all the assets. So.... We're just gonna pretend like that hyphen doesn't exist. Okay? Okay.
Battle At SKULL HAVEN is a bundle very similar to Black Sea Battle. The only difference is the third set it includes. It swaps out Maroon Gally for Smuggler's Fort. Honestly, it makes this set the superior one imo. Smuggler's Fort makes a much better combo with the two ships than Maroon Gally did. If you ask me.
Battle At Skull Haven is set #3678. It contains three distinct sets, two Ships and one Playset. It has 255 pieces and includes 12 Micro Action Figures. It also includes a rowboat, an octopus, and a shark.
The sets included in this bundle are:
The set also includes 12 micro action figures. Six members of the Skeleton Crew, four Sea Marauders, and two Privateers.
Skeleton Crew Invasion is a bit of an enigma. Certain places on the internet claim that this bundle was never released. However, I personally have to doubt that. I have seen three different instances where this set has been found on the aftermarket, complete in box. While it is true that sometimes cancelled sets can still leak out, or samples can be found, I have to doubt that it would happen with this same set three different times.
Thus, I think this bundle did release. It's just a very, very difficult to find set. Though I could be completely wrong on this. In which case, I'll just move this section to the unreleased page. But for now, here it shall stay.
Skeleton Crew Invasion is set #3680. It contains three sets. One Ship and two Skulls. The set contains 145 pieces and 11 Micro Action Figures. The set also includes two skull caves, a shark, an octopus, and a rowboat.
This box has an interesting build like the Pyrates' Hideout one. With the two skulls sticking out of the angled sides of the box.
The sets contained in this bundle are:
Yes, that's right. A total of three different bundles all contained Coffer Trap in them. I don't really know what their obsession with that set was, but it always stuck out in my head as a poster child set for the series. And I guess I wasn't wrong on that.
This bundle contains 11 Micro Action Figures. Seven Skeleton Crew Members and Four Privateers. Interestingly, it doesn't include even a single Sea Marauder.
After the Battle For Treasure Island, Admiral Bluebeard was desperate to locate Dread Eye's Phantom. He began to send out scouts to the far corners of the sea in order to locate it. Two of the scout vessels he sent were sent to Skull Haven, where The Skeleton Crew occupied the three Skull Islands that guarded the bay.
The vessels consisted of four men. Braggart T. Doyle, Anchor Kreegman, Dawson Doubloon, and Diggers Johanson. They set off and began to search the islands. Kreegman and Doubloon went together to investigate Mutiny Isle. Diggers Johanson and Braggart T. Doyle were originally supposed to search Maroon Gally together. But on the way there, they got into an argument. This led to the two of them splitting up.
Doyle ended up getting attacked by a pair of skeletons after he foolishly charged at them with his rowboat. They blew his boat up with a cannon, and he had to swim all the way to Mutiny Isle to rendezvous with Kreegman and Doubloon.
Kreegman and Doubloon had much better luck and were able to subdue and capture the Skeleton known as Scrapedepth.
Meanwhile, Diggers Johanson was walking along the coast of Treasure Island when he was ambushed by the same two skeletons that attacked Doyle at Maroon Gally. Named Sublurker and Noricorpse. They captured him and brought him to The Phantom, which had been alerted to The Privateers activity in the area.
As Kreegman, Doubloon, and Doyle were trying to escape with the captured Skeleton.... A ghostly fog rolled in. One they had all seen once before at the Battle At Skull Haven.
And that's when The Phantom began its attack.
The three men tried their best to escape the onslaught from The Skeleton Crew. They battled tooth and nail to escape and call for help. Eventually, they managed to return to Smuggler's Fort, which they held as a homebase. Though unfortunately, Doubloon would not survive the attack, killed by the ghostly spear of Shoveltooth. And Scrapedepth would manage to escape their clutches.
Treasure Trove is a bundle that released during the second wave of the original Pyrates' toyline. Oddly enough though, only two of its three sets are actually from Wave 2. One of the sets included is from Wave 1. It's a very strange combination of sets. It includes one playset, one Skull, and one pouch.
Treasure Trove is set #3693. It includes 105 pieces and six Micro Action Figures. It also includes a giant shark, a monkey, a loot bag with a Privateers insignia on it, and a skull case.
The set has a very unique boxart display. The skull for Doubloon Mystery is poking out of the corner. A skeletal hand on the boxart making it look like a skeleton is peaking out of the box. Pretty creative stuff.
The sets included in this bundle are:
The set includes six figures. Three Sea Marauders, two Skeleton Crew members, and one Privateer.
Skull Cave Collection was the final bundle to ever get released for the Pyrates' toyline. It released at one point during Wave 2 of the Original Line. This bundle actually differs from other Bundles, in that only two of its three components are actual sets. The set features three Skulls, as the name would suggest. But only two of them were actual Skulls. The third set is considered a "bonus" Skull.
This Bundle is set #3695 and contains two sets and a bonus. The set has 60 pieces and four Micro Action Figures. It also features an octopus and a shark.
The Bonus skull in this set is a unique molding of the Skull case. It has the bandana skull mold, with a bronzish bandana and bronze gem for an eye. The bonus skull contains no backing, unlike the others. And instead of a set it contains bonus items. That being an octopus, a shark, a standard cannon, and a blue and yellow parrot.
The two sets in this bundle are as follows:
The set includes four Micro Action Figures. Two Skeleton Crew members, one Sea Marauder, and one Lost Soul.
