In Mainline

Pouches are one of the set types you can expect to find in the Pyrates toyline. Pouch sets refer to a type of set that comes in a small cloth carrying bag made to resemble a coin purse or loot bag. There are four bag types in total, each with a faction logo on it. Either Sea Marauders, Privateers, Skeleton Crew, or Buccaneers. No pouch set exists for the Lost Souls or Castaway factions. They also come in three colors. Tan, brown, and black.

The pouch sets are one of the smaller set types. Only beaten out by certain Crew Packs. Each Pouch set comes with a small build and two figures of opposing factions. The wave 1 pouch sets also each come with a decoder coin. While the wave 3 pouch set comes with slides to be used for the Privateer's Lighthouse set.

Sets

In 2.0

Two of the three Wave 1 Pouch sets were remade for the 2.0 Pyrates Line. As with all sets in Pyrates 2.0, they were significantly cheaper and scaled back when compared to their original counterparts. Aside from the cheaper plastic, the 2.0 Pouches contained only one character as opposed to two. For some reason, at least as far as I can tell, only Pieces of Eight and Hidden Loot were remade. I can see no evidence that Buried Bounty was also remade during this wave.

Sets

The Set

Pieces of Eight is one of four Mainline Pouch sets. This was one of the very first Pyrates sets; released during the original Wave 1. In terms of set numbers, this is actually the first Pyrates set. Its number is 3601, the earliest number of any Pyrates set.

The set features a tan loot bag with the flag of the Sea Marauders stamped across it. The decoder coin it comes with is the copper variant. Along with that it features a small island with a palm tree for landscape.

It features two characters, Scotty Spitshine of the Sea Marauders and Vertibrine of the Skeleton Crew. Scotty wields a saber with a black hilt, while Vertibrine comes equipped with a haunted axe. Other accessories include a green snake and a treasure chest full of rubies!

Lore

The island known as "Pieces of Eight" is located to the south-east of Treasure Island. The small island is almost completely un-noteworthy, however its proximity to Treasure Island makes it more notable to any who wish to conquer these seas.

Pieces of Eight is a relatively desolate little island. During the Battle for Skull Haven, this island was one of several that hosted skirmishes between the warring factions. In this instance, Captain Cutlass sent Scotty Spitshine to secure the island as a foothold. However, Spitshine was ambushed by Vertibrine on the island. The two fought for control, and ultimately Spitshine won the island for the Sea Marauders.

2.0 Reboot

Pieces of Eight was one of the sets chosen to be remade for the 2.0 reboot of Pyrates. This time, instead of a tan Sea Marauders bag, its a black Skeleton Crew bag.

The set is more or less the same, but with the addition of a small dock on the island. The set also only comes with one figure. This time its the Skeleton Crew member named Sublurken. So essentially they traded one of the figures for a little more of a build.

The Set

Hidden Loot is the second of the four Mainline Pouch sets. It was released in Wave 1 alongside the other starter sets. Its set number is 3602.

The set comes in a black loot bag with the flag of The Skeleton Crew on it. The decoder coin featured in the set is the silver variant. The base of the set is a small island, in the same mold as Pieces of Eight, but featuring a brown top instead of sandy-tan. It's completely devoid of landscape, having only a single Skeleton Crew flag on it for decoration. I honestly have no idea what the two pyrates in this set are even bothering with this island for. LOL.

Like the other Mainline Pouch sets, it features two characters. This time, a Privateer named Dagger Tremaine (who shares the same headmold as Anchor Kreegman) and a skeleton named Hatchetfoot. Tremaine, despite being named Dagger, wields a pistol. While Hatchetfoot, despite being named "hatchet", wields a scythe.... I feel like there's a missed opportunity here. Other accessories include a scorpion, which weren't released in too many sets, and a treasure chest full of Emeralds. (Or if you listen to the wiki "malachites").

Lore

Hidden Loot lies to the East of Treasure Island, between Maroon Gally and Pieces of Eight. Calling "Hidden Loot" an island is an overstatement. Its more of a rock that happens to be sticking out of the water. Even still, the island was host to a single skirmish during the war for the Treasure of The Lord Pyrate. Shortly before the Battle for Treasure Island, the Privateers began to arrive in the area. Before making landfall, the crew of The Avenger were caught up in a terrible storm. The storm caused a Privateer by the name of Dagger Tremaine to be sent overboard. The Privateer would later wash up on the rocky outcropping known as Hidden Loot. It was here that he would engage in a brief skirmish with the Skeleton known as Hatchetfoot. Dagger Tremaine was armed with only a single pistol, he fired at the Skeleton, but due to the storm his powder had been soaked. Thus, his weapon was useless.

Hatchetfoot would capture Tremaine and take him back to The Phantom, where he was tortured until he revealed that Bluebeard was heading for The Grave of The Lord Pyrate. Tremaine's fate is unknown after this, but it is to be assumed he was killed or fed to the ship's hull.

2.0 Reboot

Hidden Loot was the only other Mainline Pouch set to recieve a 2.0 reboot version. For some reason Buried Bounty never got one. The set remains almost identical. It still features the island (though this time tan instead of brown), a treasure chest, scorpion, and the Skeleton Crew's flag. Dagger Tremaine remains in the set, though Hatchetfoot has been replaced by a small raft for him to sail on. The island also has a little bit of foliage included.

For some reason that I will never understand, none of the faction logos match in this set. It features a Privateer character, but the island includes a Skeleton Crew flag. And the pouch itself bears the mark of the Sea Marauders. I have no idea why this was done when they could've at least used the Privateers' flag on the pouch. Perhaps just carelessness.

The Set

Buried Bounty is third of the four original Mainline pouch sets. It was the final Pouch set to be released in Wave 1 of Pyrates. Its set number is 3603.

This set comes in a brown pouch featuring the flag of the Privateers. Like the others, it features a decoder coin. This time the golden variant. It features a small island base with a slightly paler sand color than Pieces of Eight. This one has a little more decoration than the other two, though that isn't saying much. It features a small ladder and a torch.

The set features two characters. A Privateer named Blackboots Burton who wields a rifle. And a Skeleton named Fathom who wields a ghostly spear. For accessories it includes a treasure chest full of gold, and a spider!!!! Which is really hard to find second hand. Since most people lose it. LoL.

Lore

Buried Bounty is a small outcropping to the North of Treasure Island. The island of Buried Bounty used to be a much bigger one, closer in size to something like Mutiny Isle and Coffer Trap. In the past it was used to guard the bay of Skull Haven, just like the other three Skull islands were. However, legend has it that the Lord of The Pyrate destroyed that island in a fit of rage and caused most of it to sink below the waters. All that remains of the island is the small rocky outcropping and a fragment of the structure that once sat upon it.

Despite this, the islet still sits very close to Skull Haven and serves as a valuable strategic position. The Skeleton Crew recognized this, and often used the islet as a lookout point. While the Privateers were searching for the best place to go ashore on Treasure Island, they happened across the islet. At the time, Fathom was keeping watch there. Blackboots Burton, a skilled sharpshooter for the Privateers, shot Fathom from the crow's nest of The Avenger. The shot killed Fathom, and allowed the Privateers to claim the small island in their own name. Though they did not leave behind anyone to guard the position. After this the island of Buried Bounty remained unmanned for the majority of the war.

The Set

Trophy Traitors is the final Pouch set to be released for the Mainline series of Pyrates. Set number 3608. Its the only one of the Pouch sets to not be released in Wave 1, instead coming in Wave 3.

Trophy Traitors is by far the most unique of the Pouch sets. Its the only Pouch that doesn't use the standard small island base. Instead it uses a thin, sandbar like piece design. It features a lamp post, a small dock, and a bit of foliage. The Pouch it comes in is black with the Buccaneers flag on it. Instead of featuring a Decoder coin, the set comes with two slides that can be used with the Privateer's Lighthouse. It has a slide of the Buccaneers logo and a slide depicting Shark Escape.

The set comes with two figures. The first is Luke Longshore, a very unique looking Buccaneer with a pegleg, eyepatch, and hookhand. Poor bastard. Longshore wields a cutlass. The other figure is far more disapointing. A simple Privateer named Burt Bounty, who looks identical to Blackboots Burton in everyway. Considering their similar looks and similar names, I like to imagine Burt Bounty is Burton's younger brother or something. Or maybe they're the same person and Burt Bounty is a fake name!

The accessories the set features are a treasure chest (can't find any pictures of what's inside), a treasure map, and a red, blue, and yellow parrot. Which is a much more rare variant of the typical blue and yellow parrot.

Lore

Trophy Traitors is part of the small cluster of islands located in the north-west corner of the map. This small cluster of islands was largely unexplored during the War for The Treasure of The Lord Pyrate, due to how far away they were. It took many years for these islands to even be discovered in the first place. Of the six islands that make up this cluster, Trophy Traitors is the only one to have a name.

During the hunt for The Treasure of the Lord Pyrate, The Sea Marauders, Privateers, and Buccaneers began to expand their searches throughout the seas. They eventually came to find the small unnamed cluster of islands. Though the three factions wanted to explore these islands, none of them wanted to divert too many resources to the exploration. So each crew sent a small voyage of two sailors each.

The Buccaneers group consisted of Luke Longshore and Sam Shackleton. The Privateers sent Burt Bounty and Philias Plank. And the Sea Marauders sent Topmast Tremblay and Tom Blackforest.

During the search of these islands, Luke Longshore would happen upon the small islet with a structure upon it. This was odd, as the island cluster was thought to be unexplored. Longshore met a lone parrot guarding the island, who told him the name of this islet was Trophy Traitors.

Luke Longshore, believing that he had perhaps found a clue about the Lord Pyrate's treasure, asked the parrot if he knew of it. But the parrot denied it. Instead the parrot claimed to know the location of a different treasure, and told Longshore of a map buried on Trophy Traitors. The parrot told him to go find the map and return with it for more answers.

Longshore dug up the map, but before he had time to ask the parrot more questions, the parrot was scared away by the gunshots of Burt Bounty. Who had discovered Luke Longshore. The two had a fight that ended in Burt Bounty retreating from the island, althrough he did steal the map in the process.

Luke Longshore claimed Trophy Traitors in the name of The Buccaneers. He vowed to one day return for the parrot and learn the secrets of whatever treasure he may have hid. Unfortunately, Longshore would never get the chance. As he would later be killed by the Skeleton Crew when they attacked Fort Defiance.
